Even though we all get excited for the holidays it can also be a stressful time. For some, it can even affect you at your workplace. But sometimes you don’t want your boss to know and so you show up to work late or call in sick all because of stress. You may have help. You may have an EAP program at work and if you do… take advantage of it soon!
I have an EAP… What is It? And do I care?
Your employer may offer an EAP, Employee Assistance Program where you work. You may have heard of it but don’t really know what it is or what it’s for. An EAP is a fantastic benefit that can assist you over the phone or in person with serious issues like physical and mental issues, abuse, family issues and stress. It can also help you to find a baby sitter, adult care for an elderly parent even a wedding or party planner! The resources are endless.
I want to talk to someone but I don’t want my Employer to know my personal issues so I’ve never used my EAP program.
The wonderful concept of the EAP program is that your employer will NOT be told who is using the plan or how. All of your information is held in confidence. EAP’s can help you through a tough situation and reduce stress so that you can continue to work your normal work shifts. Employers want you to get the guidance and help. Let’s face it, they want happy and productive employees!
How often can I use my EAP Program?
Depending on your plan, you will have 3 – 5 telephonic visits with a counselor. You may also have a plan that allows for 3, 5, or 8 face-to-face visits. Many times you can find the phone number to your EAP program in your break room or on the back of your insurance card.
